Primary Objective:

To organize and implement a rigorous academic program in science for middle and upper school students


Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan for and teach five science classes
  • Implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences
  • Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process
  • Assess the progress of the students and offer assistance when necessary
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis
  • Supervise/sponsor co-curricular and/or extra-curricular activities
  • Act as an advisor for 10-15 students
  • Observe and collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment
  • Assist with development and implementation of interdisciplinary curriculum
  • Maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures
  • Participate in admission activities as needed and assigned
  • Adhere to the bylaws, policies and procedures, and to all laws that govern the school and its actions
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by administration



  • A master's degree and teaching experience are preferred
  • Demonstrates an understanding of higher level concepts in science along with an ability to enable students to grasp that understanding
  • Articulates a clear, compelling, and well-reasoned view of science that is consistent with biblical principles
  • Capability of teaching Upper School science courses
  • Coaching experience
  • Ability to develop rapport with students
  • Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrates computer literacy and proficiency (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, email, Internet, presentation software, and online grade book programs). Experience with SmartBoard technology is a plus.
  • Embraces a strong commitment to Christian education and academic excellence consistent with the mission of Whitefield Academy
  • Models a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ, and is a Christian role model in speech, actions, and attitudes, which contributes to the spiritual atmosphere of the school
  • Believes and affirms the school's Statement of Faith
  • Evidence of the fruit of the Spirit in the nurturing of relationships with teachers and other staff members, students, families, and the community at large
  • Active involvement in a local church
